Crawler Park - Off Road To The Limit!

2015/06/January

Crawler Park - Off Road To The Limit!
Santa impersonator and RC ledge Jon Howells reports back on his start to 2015.

Friday 2nd Jan 2015, Team Howells hit the warm of Coseley Car Club, and armed with my micro Carisma foam tyres, TQ'd round one. Well happy with that! Round two saw a slight technical fault where my wheel came loose! Whoops! Round three and wheels nice and tight we TQ'd again. We would start the final from pole!

Beep, away we went! Straight on its lid! Wheelie machine!  Not the best of starts, so, with a bit of work to do, I battled my way back to the front to take the win. A great start to the season with my new micro Carisma GTB - only mods made are CVD's in the front and an alloy motor mount (great fun on a low budget  for all)

Sunday 4th Jan 2015. race day at Frankley Model Car Club. A little cooler than Friday night, - 4 track side at 8.15am. (bloody cold)

Armed with my slightly bigger Team Associated RC8T there were 3 rounds of qualifying with the best 2 to count. Round one, shod with my Fastrax Twister soft compound tyres bolted on we set out on the frozen astro turf track and had a fairly clean run to end up TQing the first round. Round two, with the temperature warming up to a tropical -1, I chose the medium compound Twisters. Unfortunately on lap 2 a rear bladder blew and with all the big jumps, I pulled out.

Round three, with all four shocks rebuilt and stopping with the medium Twister, I set the fastest 7 laps of the day, to be exact 1.5 sec faster than Si Willetts running his new Team Picco for the first time. Both myself and Si TQ'd both classes and both went on to win our 15 minute finals. So a great start to the new season

Cheers to CML for all your support :)
